| To: World Leader From: Jim Tuman, International Youth Leader Re: The welfare of children My name is Jim Tuman and I have spoken to more than 2 million children worldwide in countries such as China, Japan, England, Germany, Canada, and Mexico. I am not a politician or a businessman, I am just a highly concerned individual who has seen pain in children. I believe children in pain are hard to teach. Therefore, I would like to meet with you to discuss the welfare of children in your country. According to the United States Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration, 3 million children considered suicide in the United States in the year 2000. This is not a problem limited to children in the United States. 1 out of every 8 children worldwide will attempt suicide. Every country in the world is confronting more problems of self-esteem among their young adults; these problems are reflected in drugs, alcohol, suicide, crime, and terrorism. Our children do not want to be part of our world. Whatever improvements you make as a leader of your country can be negated by the next generation of leaders if these children are not taught to believe enough in themselves to keep their countries alive and productive. The only solution to this escalating problem is teaching children to deal with their feelings, share their concerns, value themselves, and get help for their problems. During this school year I will speak to over 150,000 school children in the United States, teaching them to recognize their value so they can lead productive adult lives. In the course of my talks, students stand and share their pain and problems. They also learn to express their positive feeling about themselves. I am concerned and ready to commit my time to help your country’s children reach their full potential. In 1994 I was invited to visit your country and I am again willing to travel across the world for 15 minutes of your time to show you what you can do in your country so we can enter the Millenium with physically and mentally healthy children. Please give me an opportunity. I think that you personally know some child who is in desperate trouble. You can turn away from this letter, but you cannot turn away from the problem. Please let me know when I may come to speak with you or someone in your administration. I have enclosed some articles and awards that reflect my commitment to turning these problems around. They reflect the hope of what is possible. Sincerely, Jim Tuman International Youth Speaker |
